Slug only responds with confusion, taken aback by Goku's sudden interest in mercy. Telling the pirate he doesn't wish to hurt him when he learns Slug is Namekian. Last-Second Chance: Goku tries to pull this on Slug.As far as the movie is concerned, he is just a space pirate that goes around terrafreezing planets for his minions and turning them into space cruisers, who just so happens to be a Namekian. He doesn't have any more depth than your run-on-the-mill movie villain, as not even his backstory is that explored in detail in supplementary material. Generic Doomsday Villain: Lord Slug is one of the worst offenders of all the movie villains next to Bojack and Android 13.Expy: Lord Slug is obviously one to the original King Piccolo, right down to using the Dragon Balls to wish for his youth back.Other speculation suggests that this was the original look for Super Saiyans until Toriyama decided not to ink Super Saiyan hair when it came time for it to be formally introduced in the manga. The transformation is called "False Super Saiyan" or "Fake Super Saiyan" when mentioned in later media such as guide books. How much Toei was aware of Toriyama's future plans isn't clear, but the legend of the "Super Saiyan" had been mentioned repeatedly throughout the early and mid Namek Saga, so it's possible they were forming their own idea of what such a form would look like. Early-Installment Weirdness: This is the first official appearance of the Super Saiyan, and has black hair with a red aura instead of the now famous Golden Super Mode.Ear Ache: Piccolo rips off his own ears to avoid being affected by Gohan's whistle.Slug himself is possibly the last of these Super Nameks. Since then, they've become nomadic space pirates, constantly pillaging planets. However, they became intoxicated on their newfound power, and the other Namekians used their Dragon Balls to banish them from the planet. On his time there, he and several other Namekians unlocked a higher state of being and became "Super Nameks". In the Funimation dub, he was raised on the original Planet Namek for a while before it got hit by several natural disasters. His great power as a Super Namekian is due to him being a mutant, which also made it so he could be nothing but pure evil. The original Japanese dub states that he had a similar backstory to the Nameless Namekian, having been sent off the original Planet Namek as a baby to escape the natural disasters that happened there.Dub-Induced Plotline Change: The Funimation dub completely changes Lord Slug's backstory.Piccolo takes advantage of this fact to gain the upper hand against Slug. Chekhov's Gun: Gohan's whistle song to Piccolo reveals that Namekians are very sensitive to high-pitched sounds.Additionally, there's a flashback to Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, which itself is non canon due to it taking place when everyone should be on Namek, which further prevents this movie from being canon. and Lord Slug's plan hinges on terraforming the entire Earth into a frozen wasteland, despite Namek being shown as filled with forests and relatively warm. Barring that, while Krillin, Goku, and Gohan being alive would seem to point to this movie taking place between the end of the Saiyan Saga and when Krillin, Gohan, and Bulma left for Namek, Piccolo is shown to be alive, despite the fact that at he was dead until near the middle of the Namek saga additionally, Goku can't turn Super Saiyan (despite the title, he only goes into a Super Saiyan-like state near the end), King Kai states that even Frieza can't defeat him (suggesting that he's still alive were he dead, he would've said Frieza couldn't defeat Lord Slug). Daizenshuu 6 states that it would take place around the fight against Frieza on Namek, between Goku's arrival and his transformation, obviously preventing this movie from being canon due to the fact that none of the cast knows Instant Transmission at this point. Continuity Snarl: As par for the course with the pre- Battle of Gods Z movies, which are considered Non-Serial Movies.Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Lord Slug, in the vein of Piccolo.Alien Blood: Wings, Metamatcha, and Lord Slug all have purple blood. The new terror is Lord Slug, a nomadic alien who plans to destroy all life on Earth, and the only one who can stop him is Goku. When an asteroid nearly destroys Planet Earth, a space ship emerges from the asteroid and lands on Earth. Released on Main Japan, it was later released with a dub by FUNimation on DVD and VHS. "Dragon Ball Z: Son Goku the Super Saiyan") is the 4th Dragon Ball Z movie. Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug (Japanese title: Dragon Ball Z: Sūpā Saiyajin da Son Gokū, lit.
